The Iceman's Game Journal

After seeing Tim's Game Diary, I started this blog to give me some incentive to actually finish some of the 461+ video games I have (of which I have finished 41.) Hope it works.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children

It came out Tuesday, I watched it Wednesday, but I was half asleep and didn't feel right writing a review of it then.

I watched it again yesterday, and it is definitely targeted at fans. Fortunately Sony decided to help non-fans or people like me who never finished the game by including a rather boring 30 minute recap of the game.

The movie great. the story is kind of thin, but there is so much action in this movie that you won't notice. It didn't seem like I was sitting there for 1 1/2 hours (it did during the recap, but not during the movie)

About the main complaint I have with the movie is the fact that most of the characters from the game show up to fight Behumet, but that is pretty much their only purpose. I understand that they only had 90 minutes, but it would have been nice to find out what they had been up to for the last 2 years.

Speaking of the other characters, there are some recognizable voices. Christiy Carlson Romano played Yuffie in the movie and in Kindgom Hearts (but not Kingdom Hearts 2) and is better known as Kim Possible. (it was kind of weird hearing Kim's voice swearing BTW.) Mena Suvari plays Aerith in the movie and in Kingdom Hearts 2 (Mandy Moore, yes the singer, played her in the first game.) Rachael Leigh Cook played Tifa in the movie and In Kingdom Hearts 2. Steve Burton played Cloud in the movie and in both Kingdom Hearts games and is a long time cast member of General Hospital

Steve Blum played Vincent and has also done about a million voices for video games and cartoons, including playing Spike in Cowboy Bebop. Beau Billingslea played Barrett and also played voices in several video games and cartoons, including Jet, Also from Cowboy Bebop (Actually, looking at the roles these 2 have played, they have worked together on a lot of stuff.

I thought it was kind of interesting that they choose the people who played the voices in Kingdom Hearts 2. I am sure when they were looking for actors, they choose to go with them because of the fact that Kingdom Hearts 2 came out a few weeks before the movie.

Ultimatly, if you like the game, you will proboly like the movie. If you never playe dthe game, watch the recap before watching the movie.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go play Final Fantasy 7 :)

Urban Dead--Level 17

I took out a zed and got to level 17 this morning. I took Diagnosis as my skill. Won't be too usefull since I am a zombie Hunter and not a doctor, but I already have most of the skills that are usefull to me.

Accualy it might come in handy. I got a friend hooked on Urban Dead and he is playing as a doctor. I'm currently working on getting to where he is, and once we meet up, I can help him get some exp. by healing people until he gets Diagnosis

Mommy! Miyamoto Isn't Sharing His Weed!

For most people, this would be late. For me, it's right on schedule. I just found out that Nintendo changed the name of the Revolution to Wii (pronounced Wee)

I tried to figure out some way to use that in the title of this post. I really did, but in the end I couldn't think of anything. All I could think of was what Miyamoto was smoking when he came up with it.

What I don't get is why they went from a cool name, the Revolution, to a dumb name, Wii. I am sure I am not alone when I say that I will continue to refer to it as the Revolution, because it makes sense. Not only will it have the cool new controller, you'll be able to play old Nintendo, Genesis, and Turbo-Graphix 16 games. In other words, all three sides in the 16 bit war will be represented on 1 console! If Revolution doesn't fit, I don't know what does!

But no, we are stuck with Wii. There have been some good jokes though. Here is what Real Life Comics had to say. (I was going to post Penny Arcade's reaction, but I want this to be a family friendly blog.)

Gamespy weighed in on this subject too, and they made some good points. The timing had to be part of a plan to increase exposure going into E3. This, combined with the fact that we will finaly see the Revolution in acction and people can finally get their hands on the controller means this could be the biggest E3 yet for Nintendo. Microsoft and Sony are going to have to pull off something big to top this

Li Kuo, news editor for Gamespy had this to say.
"Nintendo takes more chances than anyone else out there when it comes to thinking outside of the box, and sometimes they get a little carried away (Virtual Boy, anyone? ...Besides, if anyone can get away with calling their console "Wii," it's Nintendo. After all, they're the ones that made little green dinosaurs and fat Italian plumbers cool. "

In the end though, it won't mater. I think Will Tuttle, Console Editor for Gamespy said it best.
"Of course, they could name the console The Awesome FartHammer and I'd still be pushing people out of my way at Best Buy just to sip some of that delicious Nintendo Kool-Aid. We've all been doing it for years, so why stop now?"

Oh yes, we will drink the kool-aid, and it will be good (and black cheery flavored.)

Metroid:Fusion--Reactor Core

I cleared out the reactor core a little bit ago. Turns out there was some plant thing (called the Mother Root in the Gamefaqs guide I used. In my defense I just thought it was a realy tough room. Turns out it was the boss fight.) That was one of the toughest boss fights yet, even tougher then the fight against the spider thing. I just had to make sure I could take plenty of hits and fired away.

There are a few new areas that opened up after I beat the Mother Root, so I will probobly do some exploring before heading to the nearest navigation room to find out what to do next.

Kingdom Hearts-Pegasus Tournament

Took me a couple of tries, but I beat Leon and Yuffie to win the Pegasus Tournament. Didn't get anything other then a new skill and a few levels, but could have been worse. I decided to get to the next world and met Ariel in Atlantica. I didn't do too much when I got there, but next week, sealing Atlantica is my goal.

Weekly Challenges--April 24-May 1, 2006

I know, I know. I'm posting late again. In my defense, it's not my fault this time. I tried posting last ngiht around 6, but there was a problem with Blogspot, so I couldn't.

Last week I had one of the highlights of my time playing Kingdom Hearts. I met the greatest Disney character of all time, Tigger! I even got bounced by him :) Hope he shows up more later

As far as the Warcraft goals are concerned, I almost made it. I was almost done with the third scenario, when a friend IMed me, causing my laptop to switch to MSN Messneger and causing Warcraft to stop responding. Why I didn't save my game, I don't know. normaly I do at least after each map, but for some reason I didn't. Because of this, Warcraft has become my top priority for this week.

I am also adding 2 more goal slots. Since most of my games are on PC, I can play them while watching TV. I also have a few Gameboy and GBA games that I am currently addicted to and can playwhile doing other things.

Now onto the goals for this week.

1.) Win the Pegasus tournamnt in Kingdom Hearts
2.) Reach level 17 in Urban Dead
3.) Finish the first 3 scenarios in the Human Campaign of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans
4.) Discover the source of the roots in the reactor core in Metroid Fusion.
5.) play for 2 hours in Final Fantasy 6 for SNES

Note that I called it Final Fantasy 6, instead of it's US name of Final Fantasy 3. I am a traditionalist when it comes to the FF numbering system, and I always use the original numbers used in Japan.

Urban Dead--Level 16

Took out a couple of Zeds and got back to my temp. safe house just in time to reinforce the barricades before some got in. Got to level 16 in the process. I took NecroTech employment as my skill. All it really does is allow me to use the DNA Extractor and see which buildings are NecroTech buildings, but in the future, when I need some quick experience, I can get some syringes and head to a revive center.

Quake 4

While I was getting ready for work, I was watching X-Play and they did a review of Quake 4 for the Xbox 360. I'm a big fan of the Quake games, so of course I watched. The game looked good, and for a split second I was tempted to buy a 360 in order to play it. Fortunately they said something that brought me back to my senses. They said that the game occasionally had a problem with slowdown, something the PC version doesn't have a problem with (assuming you have a powerful enough system, of course.)

That is one of the reasons I never bought an Xbox. There are only about 8 games that I actually wanted for the system, and most of them are available, and better on, PC. If the games available so far are any indication, I won't be getting a 360 for the same reason. I'll spend the $400 on a PS3 instead. or better yet on a Revolution and a few games :)

Kingdom Hearts--Monstro

I was planning on playing a demo of Age Of Empires 3 that I got with last months issue of PC Gamer. Unfortunately my Laptop doesn't enough graphical power to play it, so I will have to wait until my tower is up and running :(

So I had a half hour before Veronica Mars, so I decided to play some Kingdom Hearts. I had already gotten to the first fight with the Parasite Cage earlier, so I didn't have much left.

Long story short, I beat the Parasite Cage, watched a cut scene, and beat it again (took 3 tries the second time.) Next stop, somewhere (didn't look to see where to go next.)

Weekly Challenges--April 17-April 24, 2006

YYYEEEAAAHHH!!!

I am posting this week's challenges on time!!!

I did pretty god last week. I got to level 14 in Urban Dead, almost got to level 15, and made it to Bale Mall. Since I am so close to getting to level 15, I am going to make this week's goal to get to level 16.

I also beat Jafar in Kingdom Hearts. In fact the only goal I didn't complete is the Warcraft one. My Laptop is having serious issues right now, but I ran anti-virus and spyware software, cleaned up the hard drive (freed up almost 6 GBs) and I plan on defragmenting it while I sleep, so it should be running fine tomarrow. Might have to tackle that first scenario :)

Anyways, on to this week's challenges.

1.) Beat Monstro and the Parasite Cage.

2.) Reach level 16 in Urban Dead.

3.) Finish the first 3 scenarios in the Human Campaign of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans

Labels:

Kingdom Hearts--Cave Of Wonders

I beat Jafar earlier today. I was a little disappointed. I was hoping that the main villain from my favorite Disney movie would be tougher.

Oh Well. Next up it's on to Monstro to save Pinocchio and Geppetto and to fight the Parasite Cage.

Urban Dead--Level 14

Just reached level 14. Headed back to Yagoton for the first time in almost a week to find it over run with Zombies. Shuttlebank, which is where my temporary safe house is, also has several. In fact there is a large group right outside the safe house, but that is a revive point, so they are off limits.

I took Head Shot, which causes zombies to spend an extra 5 points to get up after being killed. I am now officially a Zombie Hunter.

It's going to take a longer now for me to level up. The only skills not on the Scientist tree, which cost an extra 50 points to learn, are Knife Combat and Tagging. once I have those, it will be slow going. Based on the Suburb Map, the entire northern half of Malton is on code yellow, and there are 2 other suburbs near by that are yellow, so I should have plenty of hunting opportunities :)

Update--Looks like Bale Mall has been taken back and there are plans to reopen the revive points in Yagoton. I am thinking about working my way to the mall and help retake Yagoton. Hopefully I have enough ammo to make it there by Friday. Don't need ammo to get there, but I might as well take out a few zeds on the way :)

Weekly Challenges--April 7-April 17, 2006

ok, this is getting to be kind of a habit. I was ready to post this week's challenges, but then a friend showed up. He left around the time I left for church for a wedding rehearsal (I was running sound.) I got back just in time to watch Doctor Who and then it was time to go to bed. Saturday I only had about 1 hour after work to eat, shower, and change before I had to go to church for the wedding. I got home and had to clean the apartment because company was coming. Sunday is normally a lazy day, but my sister was home, so I had to go out to the farm and spend time with the family.

Because I have been doing so bad, and because nothing happens Mondays, I an officially changing the dead lines to Mondays starting this week, which will give me a few extra days. Too bad my bro will be in town for Easter during those 2 days, so I probably won't get much playing in, but you never know.

As for last week's challenges, I finished Ratchet and Clank, which was the main one. Unfortunately it is getting busy at work, so I wasn't able to play any Warcraft this week. Hopefully I will get those done this week.

With Ratchet and Clank done, I find myself needing a new Console game. the logical choice would be Ratchet and Clank Going Commando, but since Kingdom Hearts 2 is now out, I am going to finish Kingdom Hearts first.

Now for this week's challenges

1.) Get through the Cave Of Wonders and beat Jafar in Kingdom Hearts.

2.) Get to Level 14 in Urban Dead.

3.) Finish the first 3 scenarios in the Human Campaign of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans

Rachet and Clank--Completed

I finished the game!!!!

Actually I finished it last night, but it was getting late and I had to go to bed. Of course that doesn't mean the game is over. I still have to get the Golden Weapons and most of the Skill Points (I got a few during the first play through)

I started a new game with all my weapons, but I didn't get to keep my gadgets :( I suppose that makes sense though. After all, a lot of the game revolves around getting the gadgets. I plan on getting the Golden Weapons and Skill points, but they aren't a priority. I am moving them to the Long Term Goals section. Now I just need to figure out what the new Console game will be.

On a side note, I was kind of surprised that David Kaye played the voice of Clank. Some people (myself included) might know him better as the voice of countless cartoon characters, including Megatron in most of the Transformers series since Beast Wars.

Rachet and Clank--Golden Bolts

Just a quick update. I am about half way through the last level in Rachet and Clank. Whether I finish it tonight, I don't know, but I got the last of the Golden Bolts.

Now back to saving Veldin

Labels: ,

Urban Dead--Level 13

I got to Level 13. Wasn't to hard. Yugoton is being over run by Zombies. Some one counted about 100 of them. There were 48 in my usual safe house. Good thing I was in the police station next door getting ammo. I headed over there with about 6 shotgun shells and 6 bullets for my pistols, but I managed to take down 2 zeds before I had to switch to my fire ax.

I could have gotten to Level 14, but I figured taking First Aid would help me more (it gives plus 5 HP when using med kits.) Too bad I didn't take it before I used some First Aid kits on myself.

Oh well. Someone will heal me up some.

Weekly Challenges--March 31-April 7, 2006

Sorry about posting this weeks challenges late. In my defense, I didn't forget this time. I was about to post them when a friend showed up Friday. After he had been here for a few minutes, my brother showed up. I didn't even get to try the games I got off Ebay until today. I also didn't get to finish Ratchet and Clank

I crashed and burned on the Utopia challenge. I got hit big time Sunday night and Monday afternoon. lost almost 300 acres. I am rebuilding, but since this Age ends soon, I'm not going to worry too much. Hopefully I can make a big hit before the end of the age.

Anyways, here are this week's challenges.

1.) Finish Ratchet and Clank

2.) Get to Level 13 in Urban Dead

3.) Finish the first 3 scenarios in the Human Campaign of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans

Labels:

E-Bay Wins

Finally, after about 2 weeks, my games arrived :) I got Super Star Wars, so I now have the complete trilogy. I also Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors 2. I ordered Wizards and Warriors 1, but they advertised the wrong game by accident and gave me a refund, which was cool of them. The total cost, not counting Shipping and including Wizards and Warriors---$2.99 :) The seller is now on my favorites list.

I will probably be posting a link to the sellers auctions list.
