The Iceman's Game Journal

After seeing Tim's Game Diary, I started this blog to give me some incentive to actually finish some of the 461+ video games I have (of which I have finished 41.) Hope it works.

Defeat the Bob-omb King in Super Mario 64

Took a bit of exploring and practice with the contrils to beat him. didn't really need any of that to find him, it was more just to get a feel of the controls and to explore the Bob-omb Battlefield. I also got the Power Star behind the Chain Chomp's gate.

2 Stars collected
118 to go.

As you can probably tell based on the recent posts, I have been on a Super Mario kick recently. Not sure why, other then the fact that Mario games rock. They rock the Casbah!. Super Paper mario and Paper Mario has stolen most of my gaming time recently, and I plan on getting Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario 64 on the Virtual Console once I finish typing this, and the only reason I don't have Super Mario Galaxy yet is because I haven't boughten it yet. I will most likely have that one by the end of the month. So expect to see plenty of posts about Mario games :)

I'm watching a rerun of X-Play's Super Mario Special and they gave a list of the top 5 games in the core series (so no Party, Paper, ect) It also doesn't include Super Mario Galaxy, which hadn't been released yet when it was filmed and was reviewed at the end of the show.

5.) New Super Mario Bros.
4.) Super Mario Bros.
3.) Super Mario 64
2.) Super Mario Bros. 3
1.) Super Mario World

I have to agree with this list for the most part. the one problem I have is Super Mario 3. This is still my favorite of the Mario games. I'm not sure why, but it is my favorite, with World being a close second.

While I am talking about no agreeing with X-Play, they said that Luigi's Mansion sucked. I didn't think it was that bad of a game. Sure we were all hoping for a new Mario game when the Gamecube was released, but it wasn't too bad of a game.

Speaking of the game we eventually got (Super Mario Sunshine) I didn't think that was as bad as they said it was either. Sure it wasn't what we had expected, but it was still a good game.

Escape The Underwhare in Super Paper Mario

After talking to Mirlon, Dimentio showed up and blasted everyone to the Underwhare, the place you go when your game is over. Talked to Queen Jaydas, found out I had to find her daughter Lubvi and that a green guy that fell into the River Twyigs might be able to help. Swam down there and found Luigi, and with his high jump ability managed to fund Luvbi and get the Pure Heart repaired before returning to Flipside.

Not sure where Peach or Bowser are, but I need to find the next heart piller first.

Complete Champter 6 in Super Paper Mario

Man was this a boring chapter. I'm just glad I only had to go through about 20 of the Sammer Guys. and then the world was destroyed so i was running through a white screen for couple of minutes. Of well. Got the Pure Heart. it's not i the best shape, but at least I have it.

Defeat The Koopa Bros in Paper Mario

Got to the Koopa Village, which had been over run by Fuzzies. Met Kooper, defeated teh Fuzzies, and with his help got to the Koopa Bros' fortress, where I met Bombette. Defeated the Koopa Bros and rescues the first Star Spirit. Now on to Chapter 2.

Defeat The Goomba King in Paper Mario

Defeated the Goomba King. He wasn't too tough, but for a first boss, he wasn't to bad. I also got to Toad Town and will head to Shooting Star Summit next.

One real problem I have with the game at the moment is that you can't do any action commands. Hopefully I will gain that ability later in the game.

Link's Crossbow Training--Platinum Score on Level 3

You would have to be horrible shot not to reach at least Gold on stage 3-1, and if you aren't at platinum by the end of 3-2, something is wrong. By the time I got to 3-3, I wasn't trying for a a higher rank. I was trying to see if I could get to 100,000 points. ended up with 94,234, with 56 consecutive hits in 3-1.

now if you will excuse me, I need to check out level 4.

Finally! At Last! I have it!

I downloaded Paper Mario on the Virtual Console!

I was playing with the Wii Zapper, shooting targets in Links Crossbow Training (fun game BTW) when I remembered that I had enough money in my checking account that I could buy more Wii points and get it!

Yay!

Now if you will excuse me, I have to save the star road.

Now they just need to release Super Mario RPG on the VC.

Saturday, November 10, 2007

I just checked to see what new games have been released on the Virtual Console in the last couple of weeks, and I saw Super Mario 3 listed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Mario 3 is pretty much one of my favorite Mario games to date, with Mario World a close second. one of my greatest wins on Ebay was getting Super Mario World, but I figured I would never be able to afford a copy of Mario Bros 3 off of there. So having it on the VC is great. I can finally get a copy!

Then I went on Ebay to check prices, so that I could say what the average price is. Much to my surprise, copies can be had for anywhere from about $50 (with shipping) to as low as $10 (again with shipping.) So I might just end up getting an actual copy of ti after all, and save my Wii Points for a different game. Not sure yet.

I am a little mad though. One of the sellers I found, who was selling Super Mario Bros 3 for about $25 with shipping for the game, box, sleeve, and manual, also has Final Fantasy 2 and 3 for about the same price total! I have 3 (or more accurately I have FF6 Advance for GBA) but after several years of trying to get these games, it is frustrating that when I can't afford them, they are at a price I could actually afford.

Challenges--November 2007

Just like last year, are no challenges this month due to National Novel Writing Month. As with last year, I will be playing games. Just not enough to make it worth setting goals. There are a couple of computer games I plan on getting (both budget titles.) I will probably be getting Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80s. I was planning on updating the wrestlers I've created in various wrestling games over the years, Although I might not do many of them since I want to wait til I got Smackdown VS Raw 2008. And I will probably spend some time playing more Guitar Hero, in an attempt to finally get past level 5 on Medium.

Might also play some other games, but for now, those are the ones I will most likely play. Any others are just possible.

As always, if I achieve anything goal worthy, I will post about it, and anything else that I feel is worth posting will get on here. Otherwise, check back in a month for the next set of goals.
