The Iceman's Game Journal

After seeing Tim's Game Diary, I started this blog to give me some incentive to actually finish some of the 461+ video games I have (of which I have finished 41.) Hope it works.

19,000 Points!!!!!!

That was really fast!!  Only took a little over 2 months to reach 19,000 points!  The one that put me over the top was "Dropping Like Flies (20 gs) from CastleStorm: Definitive Edition.  So thanks Carson for getting me to play that.  He is a friend's kid who wanted to play the original CastleStorm, and after he went to bed, I decided to play the updated version.

In the interest of being transparent, I am posting this in 2017, and I am already at 19,240, so expect another post like this in a couple months probably (136 achievements for 2,660 gs in 2016 according to True Achievements!)

Prologue--Final Fantasy XV

After work and YFC, I swung by Walmart and picked up Final Fantasy 15!  As soon as I got home I put it in and it started installing.  It also started the 10 gb update!!!  Wasn't the reason it was delayed to avoid a massive Day One update?  Oh well.  It installed while I slept, and unfortunately I didn't have time to play yesterday, so I am finally playing it!

Starting of, Noctis (are they just pulling random letters from a bag to name characters now?  because Noctis is the most normal looking name I've seen so far) is greeted by some sort of bunny-cat thing.  seems this is the old training room from his dreams (WTF?) time for a tutorial.  It was a combat tutorial.  Combat is going to take some getting used to.

After the tutorial, I checked out the Lore Guide.  Seems there are 6 gods who are sleeping now, preparing for the coming of a plague known as Starscourge.  There is also The Oracle, who is blessed by the gods.  There are two warring countries in this world.  Most of it is controlled by Niflheim, a warlike nation.  The other is Lucis, who resists them.  Their capital city is called Insomnia, but Niflheim is closing in on them.  There are hordes of daemons roaming the land.  seems they strike mostly at night.Nights have grown longer recently and so have the Daemon's attacks, but no one is sure if there is a connection.  And finally, Lucis has magic, which comes from a Crystal (this is Final Fantasy after all) It has a mind of it's own and grants it's power through the Ring Of The Lucii, which is worn by the current monarch.  Rulers in Lucis can summon weapons, and close attendants can also access the Crystal's power.  There is currently a magical barrier, The Wall, that is keeping out Niflheim, but keeping it up as a big strain on the King.

With that out of the way, time to start the game.

And the loading screen has a variation of the opening screen from the first game!!!!

some glowy guy is panting.  the game IDs him as Noctis, but it doesn't look much like him.  He and his friends are fighting some sort of demon king guy.  Noctis caught on fire and Prompto put him out (he looks more like he does in the tutorial)  They, as well as Gladio and Ignis, take cover as the thing throws fire at them, then it is time to fight.

Or not.,  it seems that was a flash forward.  Then the game takes us to "Before the fall"  King Regis sends Noctis and his friends on a journey (to be the very best, like no one ever was?)  As they walked out, the king followed.  He looks like he is in  pretty bad shape.  He asked the friends no to guide Noctis, simply to stay by his side.  They are going to Altissia.  it seems that Regis and Noctis don't get along very well, but it seems to be more of a standard "I know more then my parents" thing then outright hostility.  While Noctis is going to meet his Fiance, Regis is speaking with some people from Niflheim.

Not too much to the Prologue.  the graphics are gorgeous, and so far, while I want to smack Noctis around a bit for having an attitude, the king seems pretty cool, as do Noctis' friends.  I unlocked the Insomnia's Waking Nightmare achievement.  On to Chapter 1
