The Iceman's Game Journal

After seeing Tim's Game Diary, I started this blog to give me some incentive to actually finish some of the 461+ video games I have (of which I have finished 41.) Hope it works.

2017--The Year I Do Stuff

So every year it seems I post a "This is what I want to do this year" post, and pretty much every year that is as far as it goes.  So why do I think this year will be any different?

Because I do.

Here are the games I am hoping to beat this year.  They will be added to the side bar and I will add new ones as I beat them.

Valiant Hearts (xbox one)  Technically I already beat this game.  but I want to get all the collectibles, so I still have a few to go.  shouldn't be hard and the only reason I haven't gotten this one yet is because I haven't played it for a while.

Lego Indy 2 (360) Lego Indy is my favorite Lego game, and I just remembered I got Lego Indy 2 a few months back, so I added it to the list.

Assassin's Creed 2 (360) I've been wanting to play this for a while and am finally going to start.  Not sure if I will consider all game score the completion point like I did with the first one, but I will decide that as I play.

Stardew Valley (PC) Technically I already beat the "Story Mode" but there are some side quests I want to beat before I consider it done.

Resident Evil 7(xbox one) It comes out near the end of this month so I will be getting it and playing it.

Resident Evil 6 (360) This is the only one I'm not confident I will beat, simply because I didn't like the demo much and because 7 comes out soon.  But I will give it a try.

19,000 Points!!!!!!

That was really fast!!  Only took a little over 2 months to reach 19,000 points!  The one that put me over the top was "Dropping Like Flies (20 gs) from CastleStorm: Definitive Edition.  So thanks Carson for getting me to play that.  He is a friend's kid who wanted to play the original CastleStorm, and after he went to bed, I decided to play the updated version.

In the interest of being transparent, I am posting this in 2017, and I am already at 19,240, so expect another post like this in a couple months probably (136 achievements for 2,660 gs in 2016 according to True Achievements!)

18,000 Points!!!!!!

It took me exactly 5 months (5/1-10/1) to reach 18,000.  And like 17,000, it was (as far as I can tell because again, wasn't paying attention) it was the first one of the month that got me there.  It's All Fire And Death Now... (25 gs) from Valiant Hearts.

I also know it shouldn't take too long to reach 19,000 since I am currently at 18,815 and I have a feeling I will be playing lots of Final Fantasy 15 over the next few weeks.  how cool would it be to get 3 f these posts in 1 year!

17,000 Points!!!!!!

So...took me almost a year to reach 17,000 points.  and because I didn't pay attention, I have no idea what actually put me over the top.  Near as I can tell, it was Foodie (25 gs) from Deer God that put me over the top.

Fortunately I know it won't take me as long to get to 18,000 points, because I am posting this after getting that :)

2016--The Year Of The Favorites

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago and I really want to play some of my favorite games, so that is what I am going to do this year!!!  (Almost wrote next year, because I am typing this at 11:42, right as I turned to watch Dick Clark's New Years Rockn' Eve)  (BTW.  Happy New Year to the non-exsistant people who read this.) (I really like the colors for the hats and stuff that people are wearing.  Apparently Purple and Yellow are the colors of 2016.  Or everyone in New York are cheering for the Vikings in the NFL Season Finale.  Lets go with the Vikings one.)

That doesn't mean I won't be playing other games.  I plan on beating Sly 2: Band OF Theives, will be playing more GTA5, will try to beat Fall Out 3, and of course Minecraft and WWE 2K games.  I also hope to add some new ones, like Assassin's Creed 2 and Tomb Raider (Reboot.)  But I'm going to be playing some older games as well, some of which I've maybe even beaten.

So which games?  Well, right now, here is the list of ones I want to play and try to beat this year.  If I even get a couple of them done, it will probably be a miracle, but lets see what happened.

Super Mario Bros 3
The Bard's Tale (The original, not the one that was released on Xbox)
Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Final Fantasy 4
Luigi's Mansion
Batman: Arkham Asylum (Not sure if original on Hard or GOTY on something)
Red Dead Redemption

I might add some as I finish them, but knowing me, I doubt that I will beat many.  We will see how the year goes.

16,000 Points!!!!!!

Ok, I have no idea what the achievement that put me over the top was.  In fact, I am posting this on 1/20/2016 and retro posted it to the date I passed 16,000 game score.  For whatever reason I didn't do a post about it, and TrueAchievments doesn't track every 1000 game score.  I only know the date because I am nerdy and keep track myself.

I do know the achievements I got that may have helped me reach 16,000.  Again, I have no idea which one, but I got Pork Chop (10gs) MOAR Tools (15gs) and Time To Farm! (10gs) all for Minecraft: Xbox One Edition.  I think I was doing a live stream when I got all of those too.

It took a little over a year to reach 16,000, which is longer then I would like, but since I am writing this 7 months later, I have a good feeling I will reach 17,000 faster (Current score as of this writing: 16,650 gs)

15,000 Points!!!!!!

Ok, so I actually reached 15,000 a few days ago.  I just didn't post about it at the time because it was about 2 in the morning and I was tired.  And then I forgot about it.  Opps.

My official score is 15,025 And according to the stupid games app on my tablet, I was online a couple minutes ago.  I think it needs to re scan or something.

The Achievement that put me over the tops was "Peace...Forever?" in CastleStorm, worth 30 points.  And awesomly enough, also the achievement for beating the game.  I think I need to go back and beat it with the Kingdom army (beat it with the Viking Army) but as far as the game was concerned I beat the game.

Now to see how long it takes to get to 16,000

14,000 Points!!!!!!

I am now at 14,000 Game Score!  The achievement that put me over was A Superstar Is Born! in WWE 2K14.  I was playing as Iceman (a created character) Against Santino Marella.  It looked like I might lose after he nailed me with the Cobra, but fortunately for me I had accidentally speared the ref earlier and he was still out.  By the time the ref recovered, I was able to nail Santino with another Spear and connect with Sonic Rotation to get the win.

Much faster this time.  Only 5 months to go from 13,000 to 14,000.  I blame Assassin's Creed handing out achievements like candy at the moment.  Yes i have to work for it, but it isn't too hard right now.  for me anyways. Someone like one of my nephews who just tore through the game wouldn't be getting much now.  and that is why I have several achievements that he doesn't.

How many games have I beaten

I was curious to see how many games, including multiple play throughs, I have beaten since I started this journal VS before I started it.  Granted I had to guess for a few of the older games for NES, and I had to check the archives to see if any games I knew I had gotten since I started this were in there (found 2 that I thought I beat before I started the Journal) but over all, I was surprised at the results.

Before I get started, I have beaten a total of 41 games in my life time.  Not many, but considering my Attention Deficit SQUIRREL!! I SEE A SQUIRREL!!  where was I?  who knows.  On tot he results.

Before I started the journal, I had beaten a total of 17 games at least once and a total of 71 games overall!  This is mostly due to beating several Nintendo games multiple times.

Since I started it, I have beaten a total of 24 games at least once and 28 games over all.

So...I would say the game journal is working (or at least kind of working.  had hoped to have beaten more then that by now.)

Assuming I started gaming in 1986 (20 years before I started this, and probably pretty close to when I got my NES, which I think I got for Christmas 1985) that means I have beaten more games at least once in the 7 years since I started then I did in the 20 years before.  Assuming at least 3 games a year, which is what I have done so far, I will have beaten 63 games by the time this journal is 20 years old.  That is more then 3 times how many I beat before I started it.  Granted I had annoying stuff like Homework before that, as well as having to share with my sister and other annoying, usually apparently induced, stuff, I didn't play as much as I probably do now, and I didn't have as many games as I do now due to lack of income (Allowances only go so far) but I still say that is pretty impressive.

BTW.  if I do beat at least 3 games a year from now on, the grand total will be 80 games I have beaten at least once.

Journal Update Quarterly #1

So I decided to make a list of games I plan on beating between now and the end of the year.  I might start doing this every 3 months or so.  and I will probably do a monthly update about how I did.  Best of all, I hope to actually post the journal entries for all of these.

big Hope to.

Normally these will be posted every 3 months or so, but since it's kind of the middle of one of those periiods, I decided to just go to the end of the year

These are the ones I will play for sure

  • Transfrormers: Fall Of Cybertron--Already played the demo and the only problem is it was too short. Fortunately the game comes out next Tuesday, so I will be playing it soon.
  • Resident Evil 6--I have a feeling that 6 will be the same as 4 and 5; in the drive till I beat it.  Because Resident Evil is awesome!
  • WWE'12--Hopefully I will beat Road To Wrestlemania before 13 comes out
  • WWE 13--Not sure if I will beat Attitude Mode (replaces Road To Wrestlemania) but I will defiantly be playing it
  • Lego Batman 2--Desi was excited to beat Lego Batman cause he wanted to play 2, but we didn't have time last time he was here.  So if nothing else, I'm sure I will play plenty over MEA and Christmas.
  • Oblivion--Not sure how far I will get in this.  and I probably won't do many of the side quest.  I tend to focus mostly on main quest lines, with side missions only played if I can't after beating the main quest or if it gives me something that will really help.
  • Batman: Arkham City--this is just for the Catwoman stuff.  I had a slow Internet collection when I got the game so I didn't finish downloading it until late in the game.  I think I have 3 missions for her left, and will probably take care of them this weekend before Transformers: FOC comes out.
  • Super Paper Mario--Only have 1 world left and the Pit of 1000 Trials.  hopefully it won't take long
And there are a few other games I will add to the list.  Not saying I will beat these, they are optional ones.
  • Halo Anniversary
  • Halo 4
  • Grand Theft Auto 4
  • Madden 13
As you can see, except for GTA 3, there aren't any games for anything other then 360.  Some of this might change when I get my PS3, XBLA games aren't included, but wll be played when I want to.  plus PC, Gameboy, and DS games are usually played when I am watching TV during commercial breaks.

11,000 Points!!!!

Just got my game score up to 11,000!  exactly 11,000 too.  The Achievement that got me there was Bloody Good Time, a 20 point Achievement for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Took a little over 4 months.  Would have gotten there sooner but I haven't been playing much.  Now on to 12,000!

2012--The Year Of The Zombie

With 3 Resident Evil Games (Revelations, Operation Raccoon City, and RE6) and 2 Resident Evil movies (one live action and one CGI) coming out this year, it is a good year for killing Zeds.  Add to that the fact that it's Treyarch's turn to make a Call OF Duty game and you have a new version of Zombie Mode!  And I got Dead Rising 2 the other day, which means I need to beat Dead Rising 1.  And of course Case West after it.And who knows how many zombie games (or games with Zombies in them, like RPGs) will will come out next year.

I;m planning on playing through all the main series games in the Resident Evil series in chronological order (except Revelations, which I plan on playing as soon as it comes out.) and I will be playing Operation Raccoon City when it comes out as well.  and I still need to play through Left 4 Dead.

All I know is that it is a bad time to be a Zed.

State Of The Journal

Figured I should probably post something on here other then "Hey! I reached some sort of game score related milestone!" I've posted before on this subject, but it's been a while and I never actually followed through.

As I've said before, I am writing journal entries.  Just not posting them.  I am hoping to start posting them soon, just kind of waiting for a snow storm so I have nothing to do but post (and rip my DVD collection onto my computer) Problem is the last few days are the first that we have had more then a few flurries of snow and first time that it didn't melt right away.  And while it is pretty windy out, there isn't enough snow to make visibility too bad.  Maybe half mile, but in Minnesota, that is still pretty good.  You can drive the speed limit with 1/2 mile visibility.

So much like I have for the DVD ripping, I am hoping to start posting entries on here soon, snow storm or not.  wish me luck
